Stairplan's Old Workshop

Stairplan's Dawley Workshop till 2001

History Stairplan Staircase Manufacturers

Stairplan was established by Graham Thomas in 1977 as G T Joinery specialising in Staircases and Cut Roofs based on the Brandlee in Dawley, Telford in the former W L Jones joinery workshops, also producing a wider selection of quality joinery serving our local customers within the county of Shropshire.
It became clear that our strenghts and passion was in the production of quality wooden staircases. In 1988 a new workshop was built on the Brandlee site and the company name was changed to Stairplan, you can see photo's here showing our workshop located in Brandlee, Dawley just before we moved into our next workshop on the Stafford Park Industrial Estate in Telford in 2001.

These pictures show our Dawley premises which as now been re-developed and there is now housing on this site.

Our old workshop had around 2500 square feet inside.

Machinery - Our old workshop was a fairly compact environment .
Inside the old workshop Inside our old staircase joinery workshopI am afraid the picures dont do this workshop the justice it deserves. It is a far cry from the workshop facilities we have now but we were still far advanced from our local competition in the production of staircases and other joinery items back then.

You can see in the photo a Ryburn Pickles stair trencher this was one of the first stair trenchers with automatic pneumatic movement.

Second Generation Joins The Family Business

In 1989 Graham's Son Lee came into Stairplan to serve his appreniceship in Carpentry and Joinery. Graham and Lee have spent many years hands on setting out, producing and installing wooden staircases before moving towards the more office based roles they currently undertake in the company today.

CNC Staircase Production

In 2001 following the move to the Stafford Park Workshop we invested in many new woodworking machines and 5 Axis CNC router technology and software for the production of staircases. Following the investment in our new workshop and equipment our production capacity became greater and demand for our staircases grew an a second CNC was soon required. Our area of coverage also grew to be Nationwide and we have countless international enquiries for our staircases.
